What is MIXTAPE?

MIXTAPE is an annual dance festival presented by Zoetic Dance Ensemble, featuring dance works that celebrate, support and uplift inclusivity and gender equality throughout our communities. Each artists’ work that is presented throughout the festival is an expression of their unique truths, beliefs and identities. Each year, artists are selected to present their works during the festival in Atlanta, GA.

MIXTAPE launched in 2017 at West End Performing Arts Center featuring female dance artists, Cherrise Wakeham, Sakinah LeStage, NY filmmaker, Lily Baldwin and Zoetic Dance Ensemble. The festival expanded in 2019 to include 15 dance artists from across the US that presented work at Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta, GA. The program is funded by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and the Fulton Country Board of Commissioners.

How can I present my work in MIXTAPE?

MIXTAPE applications are available every fall on Zoetic’s website, http://www.zoeticdance.org. Each year, a panel of industry adjudicators selects artists to present works. Check back later this year for updates and details on how to apply.

Why virtual?

Due to COVID-19, this year’s MIXTAPE festival was postponed and restructured to accommodate for social distancing restrictions. In the interest of keeping our community and artists safe, we decided to re-format MIXTAPE into a virtual experience.

Furthermore, we wanted to create a special experience to recognize the hard work, effort and artistry of this year’s artists, who have been committed to continuing their work during this historic and unprecedented time. It is our goal to celebrate, honor and uplift artists’ voices, who are essential to our cultural landscapes.
